RCSAR was paged out to the Heart Lake Area for a individual in need of medical attention. Call came in for an ATV/fisherman up at Heart Lake near the Flattops with an unknown medical condition, but with a chief complaint of a severe headache. After it was confirmed that the group was 7 miles from the trailhead on the Stillwater side, the team decided that it would be safer to come in from the Yampa side. With coordination from the Yampa Fire Protection District, we were able to get permission from the ranch owners to go in via their private property. Not only did they let us come in, they provided one of their sons to lead us in. We found out the medical condition was spinal meningitis and that the patient was having one of his episodes. The weather was cloudy and it was raining earlier but we got lucky and the rain stayed away while we transported the patient out via ATV. He was transported via Yampa Fire Protection District ambulance to YVMC.
